Brief Introduction to College of Adult Education
In 1978, Department of Short-term Correspondence Course was founded in Nanjing College of Meteorology.
In 1981, the department was renamed as Department of Advanced Studies.
In 1990, the department was renamed again as Center of Adult Education.
In 1999, the department was finally named as College of Adult Education (CAE).
College of Adult Education was originally established at the request of the Central Meteorological Bureau for professional training of leading cadres from Meteorological Bureaus all around China. In its initial stage, CAE has offered various training courses for carders and courses for English proficiency for several times.
In 1984, CAE embarked on adult education by offering a special training course for carders for the first time.
From 1984 through 1992, CAE aimed at adult education within the institutions of meteorological bureaus solely.
In 1992, CAE started to admit students from all walks of society. In 1993, it launched out into the adult education of Jiangsu Province by recruiting students admitted for education as well as for professional jobs, and the number of students gradually expanded. From then on, CAE has pursued the principle of serving the economical development of Jiangsu Province as the philosophy of its operation.
From 2000 when Nanjing College of Meteorology came under the administration of Jiangsu Province, CAE has recruited more students each year than before, while upgrading its operation with courses of multiplicity. In the process of its growth, CAE has once shifted its focus from offering training courses at the initial stage to managing formal schooling for academic credentials with students released from their work. At present, however, the admission of students released from work has diminished, and correspondence education accounts for the most part, recruiting people in active service mainly.
Students participating in adult education offered by CAE have several choices, such as studying while being released from work, attending correspondence courses, attending night colleges, etc. CAE has over 20 agencies for correspondence courses all over China, and students graduating from colleges or universities are qualified to apply for admission. Specialties for applicants are listed in information of admission of students.
