Brief Introduction to Department of Computer Science and Technology

Established in 1993, the Department of Computer Science and Technology has a faculty of 57 full-time teachers, including 4 professors, 10 vice professors, 36 teachers with master's degree and 13 with doctor's degree. There are three undergraduate programs: computer science and technology, software engineering and network engineering. A postgraduate program is computer application technology.

The department has five teaching sections: computer principle, software engineering, computer application, computer network and information security, a graduate school of information security, two experimental centers of basic computer teaching in Jiangsu Province and information security, and a laboratory of image processing and mode identification. With the joint effort of Secrecy Association of Information Security in Jiangsu Province, the editor's office of Information Security and Secrecy in our department issues, all over China, the magazine superintended by State Secrecy Bureau. Besides, the training center for attestative examination of information technology is in charge of training engineers of information security and network technology at national level.

For many years, the department has unswervingly adhered to modern schooling principle ¡ª ¡°take students as center, quality as tenet, qualification as goal, and adaptability to society as criteria¡±, hence formed its traditional schooling feature ¡ª ¡°attach great importance to foundation, requirements, practice and innovation¡±, turning out group after group of IT talents.

The department not only does a good job in teaching but also attaches much importance to research. In the recent five years, it has carried out 6 programs sponsored by scientific fund and provincial government, has finished 11 transverse tasks, and has published 5 academic works and more than 100 theses.

The department has actively engaged in communicating and cooperating with other colleges such as Waterford Institute of Technology and Dublin Institute of Technology.
