Brief Introduction to Department of Spatial Information Science
Overview
The Department of Spatial Information Science has a highly competitive faculty with a rational structure of professional titles. We have an excellent team, including 4 professors, 3 doctoral supervisors, 4 master supervisors, 5 teachers with Ph.D. Degrees, and 6 with Master Degree.
We have engaged in the teaching and study of the remote sensing digital image processing, the application of geographic information system, the natural disaster and evaluation, resources and environment, etc. Several teachers won the titles of ¡° Youth Scientist with Outstanding Contribution ¡± ¡¢ ¡°Special Salary from Center Government¡± ¡¢ ¡° Provincial Excellent Youth Teacher ¡±. In recent years, we have undertaken more than 10 important and key research projects, and published more than 100 scientific papers in national or international professional journals in addition to several monographs and textbooks. We also won several national and provincial awards of the advancement of science and technology and nature science awards.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs:
The Department offers the doctoral and master programs in climatic system global change, and the bachelor program in technology and geographic information system and remote sensing science, which is one of such bachelor programs firstly approved by the Education Ministry and the only one in Jiangsu Province. At present, there are 409 students in the Department.
Geographic Information System:
I t is the key subject of NUIST, which acquaints the advanced talent with the basic theory and knowledge and skills of GIS and cartology . And the Experiment Center for GIS is subsidized by ¡°the fund for the higher learning institutions co-constructed by central and local governments¡±.
Major Courses: Principles of Geographic Information System, Development of Geographic Information System, Principles of Digital City, Design of Geographic Information System, Principle and Application of remote sensing, remote sensing digital image processing, Global Positioning System, 3S Technology, Digital Photo grammetry, Physical Geography.
The graduates can be teaching, developing the applied technology and managing related with GIS in the scientific research institution, college, and the branch of meteorology, army, resource, environment, programming, and planning.
Remote Sensing Science and Technology:
The major cultivates the advanced talent with the basic theory of remote sensing , GIS, GPS, ¡° 3S¡± Technology etc., and with the skills of remote sensing digital image processing, development and application of GIS, and application of GPS.
Major courses: Principle and Application of remote sensing, remote sensing digital image processing, Quantitative Remote Sensing, Principles of Geographic Information System, Development of Geographic Information System, Global Positioning System, ¡°3S¡± Technology, Digital Photogrammetry, Physical Geography, the theory of radiation transfer.
The graduates can be teaching, developing the applied technology and managing related with remote sensing science and technology in the scientific research institution, college, and the branch of meteorology, army, resource, environment, programming, and planning.
