A Brief Introduction of
Department of Information and Communications Technologies
There are altogether 52 full-time teachers in the department, among whom 6 are professors, 13 are associate professors and 2 are entitled to special government allowance.
Nearly 80% of the faculties hold Master or Ph.D. degrees and it is a youn g and well-organized group with strong research capability.
In recent years the teaching staff has scored impressive achievements in teaching and research, for example, they have published over 20 books including textbooks and translated books, and published over 500 academic papers, 93 of the total are listed in SCI, EI, ISTP. In addition, the faculties have undertaken over 10 national research projects (including 863, 973, and Nation Science Foundation Projects) and over 100 provincial and ministerial research projects in a variety of fields. The department has won more than 20 national or provincial and ministerial awards for scientific and technological advance. Besides, they have obtained over 10 national patents.
The department has reached a high level in theory and application of large scale system optimization theory £¬ typical compound distributed control, Robust control £¬ nonlinear control theory, network and communications, instrument design and analysis, measuring and testing technology and so on £¬ and some are in the lead of the field in China. Some achievements in the scientific research have already been widely applied and produced enormous profits.
The department now has several research labs including network and communications lab, microcomputer theory and interface lab, automation lab, system analysis and integration lab, intelligence instrument lab and electric engineering lab and some basic research centers of information, communications and control are to be built in the near future.
The department now offers a first-degree master program in Systems Science and two master programs in System Analysis & Integration and System Theory respectively.
The department also offers 6 undergraduate majors, which are Communication Engineering Automation, Testing & Control Techniques and Instruments, Electric Engineering and Automation, Information Engineering and Systems Engineering.
Communication Engineering:
It is an important basis and backbone of the IT industry. It covers many sub-branches such as hardware and software of computer, data structure, network database, electronic technologies, coding, fault-correcting, fault-tolerant and fault diagnosis technique, automatic control, information compatibility, information confrontation, information security, filtering theory, circuit system, ac-dc exchange, programmed control exchange technique, satellite communication, microwave communication theory, optical fabric communication theory, network theory, satellite remote sensing technique and so on. With the study of all these subjects, students are expected to have good capacity of practical development in the field of communications technology, and to be able to set up local area communications network as well as test, maintain and rebuilt it.
Automation:
It is an important basis and backbone of the manufacturing industry. It covers the sub-branches of control theory, electromechanics , power supply and distribution, microcomputer, application of microcomputer, industrial control machine SCM(single chip machine), simulation and digit emulation, electromechanical unification , electronics, circuitry theory, system theory, nonlinear theory, motion control and processing control and so on.
It is a major with the aim of nurturing high-level technical talents in manufacturing design and integration and with the basic theory including system modeling, system analysis system correcting and integrated design. And students are expected to grasp modern techniques like applied microcomputer £¬ especially SCM (single chip machine) £¬ industrial computer so as to solve all possible production problems in the links of industrial control, CIMS £¨ Computer-Integrated Manufacturing System, £©£¬ FMS £¬ manufacturing CAD £¬ CAM and so on.
As international manufacturing industry is making its large-scale shift to mainland China £¬ the graduates in this major will have very strong competitive competence and the employment priority.
Testing & Control Techniques and Instruments £º
The students in this major are nurtured to grasp knowledge and skills in the field of Information Engineering including sensing technique, industrial testing, process control, information processing, electromechanical unification and so on. Upon graduation, they are expected to be engineering and managing talents with integrated knowledge, strong capability for practice, innovative ability and ability to carving out their own business.

Graduates are eligible for scientific research, design and manufacturing, processing management and so on in the field of mechanical engineering, information engineering, measuring and testing a nd so on.
Electric Engineering and Automation:
It is a guiding major with an aim of nurturing high-level versatile technical talents who are capable in the fields of electric testing, electric system and automation, research and development, project design and construction, system integration and so on and also with a wide range of knowledge, good adaptability, innovation awareness and ability to carve out their own business.
Students are expected to acquire a wide range of knowledge in Engineering technology basis and certain expertise such as electrician techniques, electronic techniques, automatic control, computer techniques and so on. The major is characterized with the binding of strong and feeble current, and the integration of hardware and software. Students are expected to be able to solve the basic problems in electrical engineering technical analysis and control

Information Engineering:
It is a guiding major with an aim of nurturing High-level IT talents in the field of information techniques, electronic engineering, economic system analysis and integration.
The courses include signal and system, electronic techniques, computer techniques, IT and website engineering, fault-tolerant and fault-testing, sensing technique, coding techniques, communication system theory, mobile communications and video techniques, LAN (local area network) engineering, operating system, system analysis and integration, software basis and development, data structure and database, program design, control theory, information compatibility and information confrontation techniques, embedded system design and intelligence instrument, network control and control system, digital systems simulation and VHDL, optimization method and optimal control, intelligent control, artificial intelligence and so on.
This major is characterized with the combination of network engineering and computer application and aims at the nurturing of talents with all- round quality, innovation, and the ability of carving out one's own business.
Being adaptable and eligible for jobs in many fields, the graduates are always in great demand and warmly welcomed by research institutes, companies in IT industrial circles like computer companies and information and communications companies, and enterprises and institutions
Information Engineering (majoring in Systems Engineering ):
Beside the study of the fundamental courses in information engineering, students in this major are also given classes on managing, techno-economics, project appraisals, system science and engineering, economic system analysis and forecasting, economical systems modeling and simulation, comparative economics, systems engineering for city planning, management information system, expert decision support systems and so on in order to improve students' breadth of knowledge
The students are well-prepared for their future career in the field of management, economy, statistics, finance, securities business, and commercial business and can adequately meet the needs of WTO.
