A Brief Introduction to
the Department of Chinese Language and Literature
The discipline of the Liberal Arts has been established for more than 20 years. In the early 1980s, the course of the College Chinese was introduced to all the specialities of the school; the department began to enroll Chinese language and literature majors in 1994, and has cultivated quite a number of excellent liberal arts personnel over the ten years for the society. In recent years, there has been a constant enlargement of the enrollment, and a steady elevation of the benefits running the department brings about. As a response to the nationwide reforms in education, measures were taken by the school to absorb brilliant personnel, reinforce and meliorate teaching management. As a result, a great deal of progress has been achieved in building the discipline, and a group of mentally and professionally capable teachers came into being. Currently, the number of the professors and associate professors of the department is 11, and more than 20 teachers have master's degree. Students of the department enjoy a bright perspective of employment¡ªthe employment rate of the graduate students is 100%. The department's academic research too has made remarkable achievements. The department is maintaining a close relationship with dozens of counterparts of the domestic colleges, and has established a number of training and employment bases in many enterprises within the province.
The speciality of Chinese Language and Literature
Students of this speciality focus on the study of the basic knowledge of Chinese language and literature, and are particularly cultivated in the realm of literary theory, the history of Chinese literature, the current information on academic research, and the training of writing capability. The chief courses provided are: An Introduction to Linguistics, Ancient Chinese Language, Modern Chinese Language, An Introduction to Literature, History of Ancient Chinese Literature, History of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Literary Theory of Marxism, Comparative Literature, Study on Chinese Classical Documents, History of Foreign Literature, Folk Literature, History of Chinese Language, and History of Linguistics, etc. Being theoretically and literarily conscious, graduate students of the department can adapt themselves to occupations as various as secretary, editor, teacher and professional personnel working in different departments ranging from publishing house, to college, to academic research institution, to government organizations.
